Title

Discussion and possible action to approve Resolution 2027 Calendar Year Employee Benefits.

The Board discussed recommendations from the Employee Benefits Committee regarding proposed changes to employee health insurance benefits following increases of approximately 19% in HealthChoice premiums.

The committee recommended increasing the county's Flexible Spending Account (FSA) contribution for the Basic Plan from $500 to $750, increasing the Health Savings Account (HSA) contribution from $1,500 to $2,000, and increasing the spouse/dependent benefit from $3,600 to $4,260. The in-lieu-of-insurance payment would remain at $150 per month.

It was reported that the proposed adjustments would remain within the $949,500 employee benefits budget. The committee explained that the changes were intended to provide additional financial assistance to employees, encourage consideration of lower-premium insurance options, and potentially reduce county insurance costs.

Board members discussed the financial impact, differences between insurance plans, and the importance of educating employees about their available options. Concerns were raised regarding the need for additional financial information, communication with committee representatives, and adequate time to review the proposed changes before open enrollment.

Following discussion, the Board agreed to revisit the proposed benefit adjustments at a special Budget Board meeting scheduled for Monday, October 5, at 10:00 a.m. Members were encouraged to review the information and consult with their Employee Benefits Committee representatives before the meeting.
